Anki Fun

Anki is a very popular flashcard app used for spaced repetition learning. It helped me massively when learning Portuguese. The one thing I didn't like was it was quite boring. So I created a site that lets you import all your flashcards and use them in a mini-game to make learning more fun. There are many apps and websites with games for language learning, but I wanted to use my custom Anki deck that I crafted using words and phrases I was personally struggling with. To get the import to work properly I also had to create an Anki addon in Python, I haven't coded in Python since I first learned to code so it was fun to go back.

Creativity Cards

Created to solve a problem I routinely had as a photographer, feeling enthusiastic to create something but not having an idea or concept to make. 

The series of cards are things I routinely used as a source of inspiration to create my own ideas.

The images are collected using the Unsplash API. All of the users current cards are stored in the URL so that the exact combination can easily shared with others.

A single-page app with a variety of “cards” aimed to help break the creative block.

Racing Calendar

My father wanted a place he could easily store images and data about specific horse races that was authentication protected. This app allows him to select a date, see all the races for that day and then store data with any race.

The data he can save are two number ratings and 1 image. 

I used a cloudinary to host the images for free and a MySQL database to store the ratings and image urls. 

Next Auth is used to allow only admins to edit the data, along with seeing all data. Only the ratings are visible to non-admins. Allowing him to share the ratings data with others while keeping the images private. 

Full stack horse racing calendar with ability to save images and other data. Using authentication to allow only admins to modify data.

Joint Playlist

Jointplaylist lets two users compare their music tastes and find songs that they
have in common, creating a playlist they can enjoy together. It uses the Spotify
API to find the music and as authentication. Users create their music profile,
send a personalised link to friends. Once a friend has created their profile and
compared, their dashboard will update showing who compared and what
matches they had. The user can save the matches into a joint playlist directly to
their Spotify. This is a work in progress with several things on my to-do list such
as: more methods of collecting songs, nicer styling, mobile responsiveness
plus a lot more.

This is the first thing the user see's after connecting their spotify. It lets the user choose where to get their songs from. Some users store their music in playlists, others in liked songs.

I created a loading page that uses Reddit's api to pull the top posts for that day from r/showerthoughts to keep the user engaged while the songs are importing.

This is the users dashboard. After creating their profile this is what will show whenever they login. It shows their personalised share link and their joints list. The list lets them see and access any joint that they've made or others have made with them. The user can delete joints that they have made.

This is the users profile page. It lets them delete their profile to rebuild their song list or just view their track list. The track list is lazy loaded with scroll to allow for songs lists with thousands of songs.

On the profile page if you enter the konami code into your keyboard (↑↑↓↓←→←→BA) it will let you choose a custom name, this is used all over the website including the users share link.

This is a joint page, a lazy loaded list of all the songs that you have in common, a button that lets you save the list directly to your spotify as a playlist and a custom link so you can share the list with others.

Don’t take my word for it, below is a timeline of my development journey, from not knowing how to write any code to where I am now. All progress was self-taught using online courses/resources.
